QUESTIONS, ANSWERS AND OPINIONS

OpinioNet is a smart communication platform that helps families stay connected –
– with each other and with the world around them.

FOUNDATION AND PERSPECTIVE

OpinioNet BASICS

OpinioNet is a communication tool designed to strengthen family relationships and social connectedness.
The platform combines in-person and online interactions, helping families coordinate more effectively among themselves and communicate clearly with institutions, employers, and the broader community.
The OpinioNet subscription is unique because it brings together several important activities into one clear, useful, and easy-to-understand system.

The name OpinioNet reflects its core purpose – to connect people in situations where distance, illness, or crisis complicate everyday life.
“Opinio” stands for: “To hear and be heard!”
“Net” represents socializing and activities, meeting new people and exchanging new ideas.
Together, OpinioNet helps families address the challenges arising from modern lifestyles.

Many modern families live apart due to work commitments.
In dynamic family structures, communication — both within the family and with institutions and employers — often becomes complex, especially during emotionally demanding situations such as illness or old age.

Unforeseen or unplanned crisis situations demand substantial time and financial resources, often resulting in physical and emotional exhaustion.
Geographical distance between family members introduces an additional layer of vulnerability, making coordination and decision-making even more unpredictable and difficult.

Inspiration came from real-life situations where conversations about illness, aging, and care become uncomfortable or are endlessly postponed.
When family members are busy with work, overwhelmed by daily stress, or emotionally unprepared, these conversations become even more difficult.
Talking about inheritance or responsibilities is often avoided. And yet, postponing things later creates even more complications.
OpinioNet was inspired by the need to open up these conversations in time, to make them clearer and more constructive.

The purpose of OpinioNet is to facilitate effective communication about health, illness, and aging. OpinioNet helps bridge misunderstandings by offering tools, programs, and support to ensure that important decisions and everyday challenges are managed smoothly and collaboratively.

The goals of OpinioNet are to ensure safety in situations related to illness or aging, maintain independence and quality of daily life in demanding circumstances, and promote optimal use of time, smart investments, and energy conservation.
Specific goals are defined for families, professional service providers, and employers, focusing on efficient resource management.

PRINCIPLES AND PEOPLE

MODERATORS AND TALENTS

Talents are persons who independently contribute to the recognizability and development of OpinionNet through their activities. Talents are expected to be innovative, independent, and creative.
The type of activities performed by talents and the manner in which they are performed are not limited.
However, they must be in line with the statutory and ethical standards of the country in which the relevant talents are active, and may not harm the interests of the Organizers and OpinionNet.

Moderators are people who can independently organize and lead regular Jour-fixe, Focus groups and lectures.
Moderators are not required to have professional experience in organizing or facilitating meetings. However, professional or personal experience in some of the areas covered by OpinionNet is welcome.

Based on the applications containing all the requested elements, the Organizer selects the candidates with satisfying experience, vision, proposals, and terms of operation. The selection process is not a competition and does not bind either party to make a deal or sign a contract. Where necessary in the process of selection, the Organizer will seek advice from the professionals with whom he cooperates.

No. Although knowledge of foreign languages is desirable, it is not an eligibility requirement.

If the candidates applying for the position of moderators or talents are employed, and their company or institution believes that their involvement in the activities performed within the framework of OpinionNet is in their interest, the contract is signed with the relevant company or institution.
If the candidates applying for the position of moderators or talents are unemployed, attending university programs, retired, or have some other status (e.g., they are employed but want to do some part-time work in addition to their regular job), the legal form of cooperation to be arranged must be in line with the laws of the candidates’ country of tax residence.

Moderators and talents can achieve income.

TRANSDISCIPLINARITY

A transdisciplinary approach is important because it allows various professionals to work on a single case/problem without even knowing each other, exchanging information or being familiar with the whole situation.

Example 1: You have fallen ill. Your diagnosis is made by a physician. Your bathroom and kitchen need remodeling because of your illness. If you are located abroad, a translator will translate your medical report. The translation is delivered to your insurance company by the post office. Your insurance company decides whether to approve your claim or not. A nurse makes a house call on you. You hire an architect to design the necessary adjustments. Various service providers perform the relevant adjustments. You go on living with your illness.

Each of the above-mentioned professionals does his part independently from others. Your diagnosis is not relevant for the work performed by the translator. Your physician has no interest in knowing how you will access your bathroom or cook. The insurance company does not care which or how many physicians have examined you. The various service providers working on your home adjustments do not need to know that you are ill at all.

Example 2: You have decided to take a vacation. The travel agency has provided you with the information regarding your travelling and accommodation arrangements, as well as regarding the offer of recreational activities and entertainment events in the destination. You and your friend select the clothes you will bring with you, or your mom packs your suitcase for you. The agency does not have the information about who has packed your clothes, and your mom does not always need to know where you’re going!

Interdisciplinarity is an approach in which information is exchanged between professionals from two or more fields who are familiar with the whole situation.

Example 1: If you need to install holders on your bathroom walls, three professionals must work together: an architect, a physiotherapist and an engineer. The physiotherapist knows where the holders should be installed, the architect knows how firmly they should be installed, whereas the engineer knows how the holders should be installed depending on the surface.

Example 2: When you want to change the appearance of the area around your house, your landscape artist will tell you what would look nice and fit well into your yard and garden. The agronomist will tell you what plants can thrive in the soil found in your yard, and the agricultural pharmacist will advise you on substances you can use to improve the quality of the soil.

Multidisciplinarity is the exchange of information among professionals from various fields working together on a single problem.

Example 1: A tank containing a toxic substance has rolled over in a car accident. The police are regulating the traffic and the firefighters are clearing the place of the accident. Medical teams are checking the condition of the persons found near the place of the accident. Laboratory workers are analyzing the scope and type of contamination. Sanitary inspectors are prescribing protection and prevention measures. All of them know which toxic substance is in question and all of them are working to prevent the consequences of the accident.

Example 2: You have found yourself in a situation where your teeth need to be substituted by a prosthesis. If your teeth have not all fallen out, the dentist must pull them out. The dentist will assess whether your gums are ready to embrace the prosthesis and will make an impression. The dental technician will then make the prosthesis that you like and that functions well in the dental lab.

In the past 30 years of operation, the Organizer has cooperated with over 800 different business entities in various countries. The programs envisaged under the OpinioNet will initially be carried out in cooperation with the existing network of professionals with proven expertise.

In our daily activities we may come across other professionals that we may invite to join us – a kind of passive selection process.

If there are certain requests or questions to which we are unable to provide answers relying on our existing network, we will try and find other professionals within the limits of available resources.

The OpinioNet serves to support families whose members live far away from one another and deals with the impact and consequences of illness and old age within families and the interactions between families and institutions!

Apart from the medical staff (physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, lab workers, caretakers, etc.) and professions closely related to health (pharmacists, psychologists, nutritionists, etc.), real life includes numerous other professionals – translators/interpreters and mediators, tax advisors and accountants, architects/designers and engineers, service providers/handymen of various profiles, lawyers and notaries, social workers and public servants. Cleaning staff and neighbors who are at hand and ready to help are unjustifiably named at the end of the list. They, in fact, have a key role. We will therefore devote particular attention and program sections to them!

It is impossible to list all situations, i.e. all professionals for which the need may arise during one’s lifetime. We have no intention of providing a comprehensive list of professionals, but we will maintain on our website a list of professionals already within our network, and we will update it to include the newly hired ones.

Online and live communication channels allow a simple and quick access to our network and services of various professionals in more than 20 countries!

TRANSLATIONS

No. Subscription covers the use of contents in Croatian, German and English. Subscribers to regular programs can use any of the programs in any of the available languages.
Requests for special translations are possible, and will be approved or rejected according to the circumstances of the case.
The Organizer will not assume the obligation to post contents in all languages!

Translations and interpretations ensure a level playing field for all participants to The OpinioNet, regardless of the knowledge of foreign languages!
In other words, you can pose a question in Croatian and read or listen to the answer provided by foreign professionals in Croatian as well.

You are welcome to register and take part, but we recommend at least a basic understanding of the language to ensure active participation.
The main languages of communication are listed on the page of each topic or event. In some cases, it is also possible to join as an observer.
Some key parts of the content may be translated or summarised during or after the session, depending on the format and availability.

No. Although knowledge of foreign languages is desirable, it is not an eligibility requirement.

INTERACTIVENESS

Yes. For a topic proposal to be accepted and processed, the proponent must provide arguments for the need to cover the relevant topic and state the purpose of the proposal. The Organizer will not assume the obligation to realize all topic proposals.

Yes, absolutely! Subscribers can ask questions via the dedicated question page, or during online and in-person events – provided that the organisational, technical and cultural conditions of the event allow it.
OpinioNet is not a forum and does not create a public database of individual questions and answers. Instead, we focus on thematic grouping and addressing of questions during scheduled sessions (e.g. Jour-Fixe, Get-Together, and other formats).
We cannot guarantee a response to every individual question, but we make an effort to address questions that are frequently asked or particularly relevant to the wider community.

Online and live communication channels allow a simple and quick access to our network and services of various professionals in more than 20 countries!

The term Jour-Fixe refers to a regular monthly meeting of a group of people, held on a set day.
At OpinioNet, the Jour-Fixe is designed to maintain regular contact and communication among subscribers who share a common interest or characteristic.
When registering, future subscribers choose one Jour-Fixe topic.
The selection of a starting topic is made easier on this page: https://www.opinion-net.com/topics/
After 6 months, it is possible to switch to new topics, locations, or interest groups.

Jour-Fixe have a limited number of participants. The minimum number required for dynamic communication is 6. The maximal number of participants is 12.

The programs and projects envisaged under The OpinioNet are available both in online formats and in other formats executed at various locations in Austria and Croatia.
Subscribers can be located in any part of the world and their participation, i.e. use of contents, is not required.

Questions submitted anonymously via a “Havatar” (to protect your privacy) may be answered immediately during the event if asked live in the online session.
Questions submitted in writing will be addressed on Wednesdays during the “Your Voice Matters!” and “You Won’t Get Lost in the Crowd!” events.
We do not respond to all questions at the same pace, and we kindly ask for your understanding.
Your suggestions to improve this important feature of the OpinioNet platform are very welcome!

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGIC THINKING

UNDERSTAND = MANAGE YOUR TIME

*Why: When the family understands the situation and has a clear grasp of what is happening with their loved one, uncertainty is reduced. This can lead to more efficient use of time, as family members can better organize themselves and prepare for what lies ahead.
*Why it’s important for time: Without uncertainty, the family can make quicker decisions and optimize their time, saving valuable time that would otherwise be spent on worry and insecurity.

*Why: Trust among family members enables better cooperation, so time is used more efficiently. When family members trust each other, the need for constant checking and supervision decreases, which means they can allocate their time more effectively.
*Why it’s important for time: With trust, people are more willing to share responsibilities and schedule their time, allowing for better organization and reduced stress.

*Why: Reducing stress allows for clearer thinking and better decision-making, which leads to more efficient use of time. When the family is not under constant stress, they can better organize and plan activities that require more time.
*Why it’s important for time: By reducing stress, family members can make better use of their time because they are less physically and emotionally drained.

*Why: Clearly and consistently expressing needs means less time is wasted trying to understand or interpret disagreements. Family members can respond more quickly to the sick person’s needs and make appropriate decisions.
*Why it’s important for time: Consistency reduces confusion and misunderstandings, saving time that would otherwise be lost on explanations or uncertainty.

*Why: When the family feels connected and supported, they are less likely to feel overwhelmed and hopeless. This allows for better use of time because all members can actively participate in caring for the ill person instead of withdrawing.
*Why it’s important for time: This sense of connection can reduce the time spent in emotional struggle, thereby improving organization and allocation of time for caregiving tasks and other responsibilities.

*Why: Preventing conflicts helps reduce stress and disagreements that can take up time. When family members avoid unnecessary disputes, they can allocate their time more efficiently to practical tasks and mutual support.
*Why it’s important for time: Conflicts can consume a lot of time and emotional energy. By preventing them, family members can focus on concrete activities that help care for the ill person.

PLAN = INVEST WISELY

*Why: Setting clear boundaries and realistic expectations enables better management of financial resources. For example, the family can set realistic expectations regarding the costs of medical care, accommodation, or other services, thus avoiding financial problems and uncertainties.
*Why it’s important for finances: This practice helps optimize financial decisions by preventing unforeseen expenses, which can protect the family budget in the long run and ensure stability.

*Why: Flexibility allows the family to adjust their financial obligations according to changing circumstances, such as medical expenses or reduced income due to a family member stopping work. This helps ensure that basic living essentials are not compromised.
*Why it’s important for finances: Flexibility enables better money management because the family can adapt plans and priorities to their current financial situation, avoiding financial difficulties and unexpected expenses.

*Why: Reducing administrative barriers means the family can access necessary services faster and more efficiently, securing financial aid, medical care, or social support. This saves time and money by cutting down the number of bureaucratic steps and costs associated with administrative processes.
*Why it’s important for finances: Fewer administrative barriers mean less time and money spent on processing applications, seeking subsidies, insurance, or other administrative tasks. This allows resources to be better directed toward actual needs.

*Why: Ensuring continuity of activities, whether in healthcare or professional duties, helps maintain financial stability. If the family can sustain work ability or continuous care for the ill person, income can be preserved, protecting financial assets.
*Why it’s important for finances: Continuity in activities, such as work or healthcare, prevents disruptions in financial flows and ensures that long-term goals (like preserving assets or savings) are not jeopardized.

*Why: Reducing risks, whether financial, health-related, or emotional, helps the family protect their assets and financial stability. If the family successfully minimizes risks related to illness or loss of income, they can better safeguard their valuables.
*Why it’s important for finances: Risk reduction enables the family to avoid sudden financial losses, costs associated with crisis situations, and ensures long-term security.

*Why: Reducing frustration and disappointment means the family can make better decisions, manage financial resources, and respond to challenges with greater clarity and calmness. This can also lead to better money management by decreasing impulsiveness in financial decisions.
*Why it’s important for finances: Frustration and disappointment can lead to impulsive spending or poor financial choices. Reducing these emotions allows for more rational and thoughtful financial management, helping to preserve and grow family assets.

PARTICIPATE = PRESERVE YOUR ENERGY

*Why: Strengthening social connections helps a person feel supported, which can significantly reduce feelings of exhaustion. With support from friends, family, or colleagues, people can better handle stress and emotional challenges, restoring their energy.
*Why it’s important for strength (energy): Support from others can help a person feel less overwhelmed, renewing emotional and psychological energy. Social interactions can also provide comfort and reduce stress.

*Why: Reducing tension, whether physical or emotional, allows the body and mind to relax and restore energy. When tension decreases, people can breathe easier, sleep better, and recover, leading to greater vitality.
*Why it’s important for strength (energy): Tension consumes a lot of energy and can cause physical exhaustion. Reducing tension helps restore energy by freeing the body from unnecessary stress and strain.

*Why: Motivation is key to maintaining energy because it drives us and gives us direction. When we are motivated, we have more energy to face challenges, take action, and not give up on our goals.
*Why it’s important for strength (energy): Motivation boosts our productivity and willpower, meaning we use our energy more efficiently to achieve goals without feeling exhausted.

*Why: Reducing stress directly helps preserve energy because stress drains mental and physical resources. When stress decreases, the body has more capacity for recovery and regeneration.
*Why it’s important for strength (energy): Stress increases energy consumption and can cause chronic exhaustion. Calming down and reducing stress enable better energy management and prevent excessive depletion.

*Why: Protecting mental health means preventing mental exhaustion and maintaining balance, which is crucial for preserving strength and energy. Mental health directly impacts emotional and physical energy, and its preservation helps prevent burnout.
*Why it’s important for strength (energy): Mental health is the foundation for maintaining energy because when we feel good psychologically, we have more resources to face challenges. Taking preventive measures to protect mental health reduces the need to recover from draining emotional experiences.

*Why: Belonging to a positive environment enables greater emotional and mental stability because the environment supports and motivates us. Such an environment reduces negative influences that drain energy and helps us stay motivated.
*Why it’s important for strength (energy): A positive environment creates a sense of safety and comfort, allowing people to relax and restore their energy. This is crucial for maintaining mental and physical vitality, as negative environments can further drain energy.

ONLINE INTERACTIONS

JOUR-FIXE

At OpinioNet, a Jour-Fixe refers to an online format of casual, everyday meetings.
The goal is to maintain regular contact and engagement among subscribers who share a common interest or characteristic.
Subscribers can participate in all topics without limitation.
An overview of available topics is provided here: https://www.opinion-net.com/topics/

There is no limit to the number of participants in a Jour-Fixe.

You can participate in an unlimited number of Jour-Fixes throughout the month.

Categories and topics are created within the framework of the 10 defined areas of work of OpinioNet. Focus group and Jour-Fixes have 16 predefined topics. Subscribers’ suggestions will be collected for updating and expanding!
https://www.opinion-net.com/topics/

We cannot guarantee a response to every individual question, but we make an effort to address questions that are frequently asked or particularly relevant to the wider community.

A Focus group is a structured, recurring monthly meeting focused on a specific topic or shared interest, with regular participants.
A Jour-Fixe is a more informal and spontaneous event open to all subscribers, often used to exchange impressions, meet new people, or share feedback across different groups.

SECURITY AND INNOVATION

(H)AVATAR

Havatar is a term coined by combining the words health and avatar (a graphical representation of a user that conceals their true identity, commonly used in the digital world).
In developing OpinioNet, we have paid special attention to the protection of personal information and the identities of our subscribers.
A Havatar is an email address with the @opinionet domain, generated once and uniquely for each user. It is ordered and used as desired.

This innovative identity protection method allows subscribers to participate in communication fully anonymously, should they choose that option.
Users reveal their real identity only if they choose to.
The Havatar system protects privacy and supports safe and open communication.

Our webpages are hosted on servers in Linz (World4You). Since 2013, when we began our online activities in Austria, we have had no incidents related to data protection.
All our webpages use licensed software and protection programs that are updated daily.
All users are subject to our [Data Protection Policy].

The Havatar protects the identity of OpinioNet users. A personal Havatar is assigned to an individual subscriber for anonymous participation in communication and activities. The user decides if and when to reveal their identity.

The Corporate Havatar is used by the holder of a privileged subscription – a company, clinic, or municipality/city – to provide access to its employees, patients, or residents.
Data of employees (patients, residents) and their families are protected through a unique communication interface.
The employer (clinic or municipality/city) does not see details of the individual’s health situation or needs – all they know is that their employee (patient or resident) uses the service under the agreed subscription.
Each individual (company employee, patient of a clinic, or resident of a municipality or city) may, but is not obliged to, create their own personal Havatar.
